The Talking Post is a completely free service aimed primarily at blind and partially sighted people, who would like to keep in touch with the local news and would enjoy a weekly spoken magazine.

Each week we record about 30 minutes of articles from the Sussex Express, covering
Lewes, Seaford, Peacehaven and Newhaven.  And we add a further selection of magazine articles, stories, poetry and suchlike.  We are the only provider of recorded material of the local news for the Lewes District.

We recognise that our listeners may feel isolated in their own homes.  The Phoenix Talking Post can offer listeners the opportunity to feel involved in their community by hearing about key local issues.

If you would like to receive regular copies, or know of someone who may be interested, please contact us on 01273 913551, or fill in the contact form on the Contact Us page.

Our recordings

We hope to be able to provide a link to our recordings here in the near future. Once this feature is live, you will be able to access the recordings to listen on your computer, or by using your smart speaker.

Currently we send out recordings each week on a USB stick to those who have signed up to receive our service. The recordings are sent out in a small yellow pouch and delivered free by Royal Mail. You can send the USB stick back to us the same way.

The address label is always inside a little plastic wallet, which fits into a clear window on the yellow pouch.  It has your address on one side, and our address on the other.  You can tell which address is facing you as there is a hole punched in the plastic wallet on the Talking Post address side.  If you want to check that the correct address is showing to return your yellow pouch, just feel for the hole in the corner and have this side facing up.

We can provide equipment for you to listen to the recordings and help in setting up the equipment.  One of our volunteers will visit you at home to do this.  All of our volunteers who visit are DBS checked.

Small hole, so someone with a visual impairment can feel what side of the pouch the return address is on..

What we do is a free service.  Everyone that does the recordings, both reading and recording, as well as those who support the running of the Talking Post, is a volunteer and does the work in their own time.
